Numeracy is a lifelong set of skills that everyone utilizes in daily life. At École Edwards, we believe all students can become confident mathematicians that are fluent in math, can use reasoning to explain their understanding of concepts, and can problem solve using a variety of strategies.
Supports include:
- Common vocabulary, tool kits, and strategies across all classrooms
- Math Facts Program- recognizing numbers from 0-100, adding and subtracting numbers from 0-12, multiplying and dividing numbers up to 12x12
- School wide pre-assessment of key mathematical concepts
- Targeted programming to support students based on pre-assessment data
Benefits for Students
- Students who are strong in fluency, reasoning, and problem solving are able to apply these skills across various curricular areas
- From basic life skills to applying these same skills in the work environment, numeracy is equally important to literacy in allowing students to be successful their whole lives
Our Progress
- Our Numeracy committee is working on developing and sharing an Edwards-based pre-assessment for all students from K-5
- The data collected from this pre-assessment allows us to target areas of growth and strengths within our school
- Currently working on Teacher PL and developing a repository around common language, lessons, manipulatives, and differentiation
